Our trip coincides with a couture fashion exhibition at the city's Frist Center for the Visual Arts which includes four of the internationally renowned mannequins of the Theatre de la Mode from Maryhill Museum. The exhibition, The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London, 1947-1957, was organized by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and was recently exhibited in Hong Kong. |

Thursday, June 17 Overnight in Nashville Breakfast and lunch included After breakfast, enjoy a guided walk of downtown Nashville starting at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts housed in an impressive Art Deco building. Continue to the Ryman Auditorium which, since it was built in 1892, has hosted performances by Sarah Bernhardt, Enrico Caruso, Katharine Hepburn, Orson Welles and Mae West. Lunch nearby will include live music. Enjoy the Egyptian Revival architectural style of the Old First Presbyterian Church, a designated National Historic Landmark built in 1851. Continue to the Tennessee State Museum which provides a rich overview of many centuries of Tennessee history from prehistoric settlements all the way up to the twentieth century. A collection of over three hundred quilts from the 1790s to the present is a museum highlight. Just northwest of the State Capitol (a masterpiece of Greek Revival architecture designed by American architect William Strickland) examine the diverse wares of the Nashville Farmer's Market and perhaps browse the offerings at the African Fabric Store booth. This evening you will be the special guests at the Member's Opening of The Golden Age of Couture exhibition at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. |

Friday, June 18 Overnight in Nashville Breakfast and lunch included This morning travel by vehicle to West Nashville and tour the Parthenon, a full-size replica of the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The building, constructed for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, is home to Nashville’s permanent art collections which include a 42-foot high sculpture of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Later, visit the Carl Van Vechten Galleries at Fisk University to view the Alfred Stieglitz Collection consisting of works by Picasso, Renior, Stieglitz, O'Keefe and more. The collection was donated by Stieglitz's wife, Georgia O'Keefe in 1948. Enjoy lunch at the favorite restaurant of Nashville's "cowboy couture" designer, Manuel. Later, gain insights on the couturier's designs with a visit to Manuel's workshop and boutique he creates couture for presidents, movie stars, and music superstars. Continue to Hillsboro Village where you can opt to shop on your own at couture and vintage shops, or tour the Belmont Mansion, an ornate Italianate villa built in the 1850s for one of the wealthiest women in America at the time. Tonight you can choose to return to the Frist Center to view the The Golden Age of Couture exhibition at your leisure, or enjoy an optional live music performance. |

Saturday, June 19 Overnight in Nashville Breakfast and lunch included This morning travel to the exclusive Belle Meade area to explore the Cheekwood Museum of Art's world-class collection of American painting and sculpture. Here, too, you'll find English and American decorative arts and glass by Dale Chihuly. Continue your immersion in the nineteenth century with a visit to the Belle Meade Plantation (an 1853 Greek Revival mansion that once was the center of a 5,400 acre working plantation). Enjoy lunch on the plantation. Complete the afternoon by shopping the exclusive boutiques at Green Hills (Gus Meyer, Sugar, and Posh) on your own. Or continue east of Nashville and tour The Hermitage, home of Andrew Jackson (seventh president of the United States) and a Greek Revival masterpiece. If you wish, we can drop you off at Opry Mills where you can shop or have a look at the Grand Ole Opry House. Enjoy an optional live music performances this evening. |
