More Destinations

Over the years, Walking Softly Adventures has developed and operated trips to a variety of destinations either as scheduled departures or custom-designed itineraries for groups. Not all the trips that we've developed are offered every year. Here, you'll find a sampling of trips from past years. Please let us know if you have a specific interest in any of them. We would love the opportunity to help make your travel dreams a reality!

Note that each of the following trips (or modifications thereof) may be booked as a private departure for your group of friends, family or colleagues.

Paris: Art & History of the City of Light. Immerse yourself in the art and history of one of Europe’s great cities! Visit the Louvre and a wealth of other museums—including the Orsay, Picasso, and Rodin Museums. Enjoy the architectural masterpieces of Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle. On daytrips from Paris, experience the medieval cathedral at Chartres and Claude Monet’s home at Giverny.

Rembrandt, Vermeer & Van Gogh: Art Treasures of the Netherlands. Featuring original masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh and Mondriaan. Visit the Philips Wing of the Rijksmuseum, the Kroller-Muller Museum tucked in a national park, and the Mauritshuis and Frans Hals Museum both in 17th century buildings. Time your trip to catch the spectacular bulb display at Keukenhof Gardens.

Italy Classics: The Romans, Greeks & Andrea Palladio. Explore the tenacity of our fascination with the classical world. Throughout the fifteen centuries since the fall of Rome, the classical civilizations of the Greeks, Romans and pre-Roman Etruscans have influenced architecture, sculpture as well as the formation of governments and other institutions in the western world. In America, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers studied the classics through the lens of those who came before them particularly Andrea Palladio, an Italian Renaissance architect who visited the classical monuments of Rome to "see with my own eyes and measure everything with my own hands." Jefferson counseled in 1816 that in matters of architecture Palladio "is the Bible. Stick close to it."

Bulgaria Heritage. Embark on an "art and culture" adventure at Europe's eastern edge! Experience the colorful and fascinating heritage of Bulgaria, a little-known, and beautiful Balkan country.

Romania Heritage. Explore museums and historic sites in  Bucharest, the Saxon towns and fortified churches of Wallachia and Transylvania, the skyscraping wooden churches of Maramures, and the renowned painted monasteries of Moldavia.

Prague, Budapest & Krakow: Gem Cities of Europe. Experience the best of three of Europe's “gem” cities. Explore castles, walk cobblestone streets, and immerse yourself in masterpieces of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art. Feel the pulse of vibrant and beautiful Prague, Budapest, and Krakow, new gems in the European Union.

Boston: Art, History and Architecture. Savor art masterpieces at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Peabody Essex Museum, Harvard Art Museums, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Off the beaten path gems like the sculpture garden at the DeCordova Museum and the Walter Gropius house augment the experience.

Jordan Heritage. Join us on this journey to discover the cultural and natural heritage of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Included are visits to the ruins of a Roman city, fortresses dating from the period of the Crusades, the desert forts east of Amman including the Qasr Amra, a World Heritage Site. Jordan's cultural treasury culminates at the incomparable site of Petra where you'll enjoy a three-night stay.

Peru & Bolivia: Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. On this Andean journey, experience the splendor of Machu Picchu, explore the Inca sites around Cusco, ancient seat of the Inca Empire, cross Lake Titicaca, and visit Tiwanaku, a ceremonial site built by a civilization that arose a thousand years before the Inca.
