| Discover the mountains of northern Greece! In the Zagori region you'll find a landscape filled with beautiful mountain villages linked by stone-tiled trails and humpbacked bridges. In the high country of the Pindos Mountains you'll thrill to meadows ablaze with crocus and ringed by towering limestone peaks. Here, too, is the Vikos Gorge, one of Europe's most spectacular! Hike to the monasteries of Meteora perched precariously atop towering sandstone pinnacles. You'll also have an opportunity to ascend to the summit of Mount Olympus, legendary home of the Greek gods. | ||||||||

| Days 1-3: Begin with a walking tour of the old town of Ioannina and a visit to the nearby ancient Greek amphitheater at Dodona. Then travel by vehicle to the Zagori region where you'll spend three nights in the village of Kipi in a traditional inn. Hike from village to village across beautiful stone bridges. Descend into the spectacular Vikos Gorge for a hike along the canyon floor. | ||||||||

| Days 4-5: Stay in a restored villa in the mountain village of Papigo for two nights. Hike in the Pindos Mountains to a refuge perched 6,400 feet above sea level. Ramble across alpine meadows to the remote Dragon Lake hemmed in by mountain ramparts. | ||||||||
| Days 6-7: At Meteora follow trails that lead up to the area's fascinating perched monasteries. Evenings are spent in a quiet village at the base of Meteora's striking sandstone pinnacles. | ||||||||

| Days 8-10: The crescendo of the trip is a hike to the summit of Mount Olympus. On the first day hike up to a refuge perched at timberline on the slopes of this mythic peak. The next day choose to summit the nearly 10,000 foot peak, or ascend a nearby ridge for wide-ranging views over this mountain massif. On the third day descend the mountain and travel by vehicle to Thessaloniki. | ||||||||
