Among the most visually stunning mountains anywhere, the Dolomites offer a superb network of trails that caters to hikers of all abilities. Hike the Sesto Dolomites where the needle-like spires and pinnacles of the range are at their finest. Around the Ladin-speaking Val Gardena the Dolomites are characterized by extensive meadowlands, flower-filled villages, and soaring peaks. Without a doubt, we think the Dolomites provide some of the best mountain hiking experiences on the planet!

Days 1-3: From the South Tyrolean town of Bressanone, travel east to the Sesto Dolomites nestled against the border with Austria. Hike the trails of the Cadini mountain group and complete a circuit of the three peaks known as the Tre Cime de Lavaredo. Other trails lead to gems like a turquoise alpine lake tucked into the flanks of the Sorapiss mountain.

Days 4-6: Journey by vehicle west to Colfosco in the Val Badia. En route, stop for a hike at Lagazuoi where you can explore impressive ruins from the first World War set amidst the glorious mountain landscapes at the foot of the Tofane mountain group. From your base in the Val Badia, enjoy hikes in the craggy Cir mountains, and explore the trails the lead across the austere Puez plateau and the lunar-like plateau atop the Sella massif.

Rifugio Boe sits amidst the austere, lunar-like landscape of the Sella plateau.

Days 7-10: Cross the Gardena pass to your third base in the village of Santa Cristina in the Val Gardena. Hike across the Alpe di Siusi, one of the most extensive alpine meadowlands in Europe. Follow trails to the rocky spires of the Odle Geisler and to vantage points that provide sweeping vistas toward the skyscraping peaks that hem in the Val Gardena. Explore the rocky heart of the Sassolungo, the monolithic peak that dominates the view from your hotel. Travel back to Bressanone at the conclusion of the trip. (A shorter version of the trip ends in Santa Cristina on Day 7.)
